LA JOLLA, Calif. --
Despite 20 kills from Kelsey Hull and 19 more from Caylie Seitz, the Sonoma State volleyball team took an early 1-0 match lead, but host UC San Diego rallied to win the next three sets en route to a 3-1 victory on Friday night at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.  With the loss, the 14th-ranked Seawolves fell to 16-4 overall and dropped into a tie for second place in the CCAA standings with the 13th-ranked Tritons at 9-3 in conference play; UCSD is now 17-3 overall.

After Sonoma State claimed a 25-21 win in the opening set, UC San Diego came right back to win the second by an identical score of 25-21.  With the match tied at one apiece, both squads would enter a see-saw battle as the third set featured match highs of eight ties and four lead changes.  The Seawolves trailed 17-14 before reeling off three straight points to knot the set at 17, but the Tritons scored six of the next seven points and eventually cruised to the 25-20 win and the 2-1 match lead.  The fourth set was all UCSD as the hosts finished SSU off with a convincing 25-16 match-clinching win in set number four.

The Tritons sported a .291 hitting percentage, putting away 60 kills with 17 errors in 148 attacks as the Seawolves finished below their season average at .231, collecting 59 kills and making 23 errors in 156 swings.  UCSD out-blocked SSU, 10.0 to 5.0, and made just one service error compared to eight for Sonoma State.

Hull led the offense with 21.0 points on 20 kills and a solo block while contributing 11 digs.  Seitz had the aforementioned 19 kills, Madelyn Densberger added 10 kills with 10 digs and Nicole Gragnola recorded a match-high 23 digs.

UC San Diego was led by Caitlin Brenton, who scored 19.0 points on 15 kills, a service ace and five blocks.  She hit a stellar .515 (15k-1e-27a) and also added nine digs.  Danielle Dahle had a team-high 16 kills, while Sophie Rowe tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.  Heidi Sierks also hit a double-double, amassing 48 assists and 13 digs.

Sonoma State will face another tough opponent on Saturday in 12th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino, which remains undefeated in CCAA matches at 12-0 (16-4 overall).  First serve from Coussoulis Arena is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
