ROHNERT PARK, Calif -- San Francisco State used a 28-2 run midway through the second half to blow open what was a competitive game on their way to an 83-62 win over Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon at The Wolves' Den. The Seawolves endured a cold stretch that saw them go without a field goal for seven and a half minutes as they drop to 1-7, 0-4 CCAA on the season. The Gators complete a season sweep of the Seawolves, improving to 6-2, 3-1 CCAA.
The Seawolves came out strong in the first half before San Francisco State stole the momentum with a 15-3 run that allowed them to take a 20-10 lead. Despite the deficit, Sonoma did not give in, climbing back to within one at 28-27 on a
James Davis three-pointer with just under three to go. The teams hit the break with SF State holding on to a 32-27 advantage.
Sonoma State got to within one on several occasions early in the second half before the Gators kicked it into high gear. A 17-0 run eventually turned into a 28-2 spurt, turning a meager 42-39 lead into a commanding 70-41 edge. While the Gators hit just about everything, the Seawolves didn't help their fortunes, going without a field goal from the 15:00 mark until
Zen Maki sank a three with 7:23 to go.
The Gators got 26 points from Nefi Perdomo and 18 from Uden Osakue. They hit 11 three-pointers in the game, including 7 on 11 attempts in the second half.
Sonoma State, on the other hand, shot just 6 of 29 from three-point territory and 28.3% overall.
Sterling Arterberry was the team's leading scorer with 16 points.
The Seawolves will return to action following the winter break on January 3rd at Cal State Dominguez Hills. They next play in The Wolves' Den on January 17th against UC San Diego.
