ROHNERT PARK --
Will Olsem drained five three-pointers and amassed for 22 points and Justin Herold chipped in with 17 points, including a perfect 9 for 9 at the free throw line, as Sonoma State earned a convincing 83-68 win over visiting Humboldt State in a foul-plagued contest on Friday night at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves (10-13, 8-11 CCAA) moves into a tie for seventh place with UC San Diego, while the Lumberjacks (11-12, 7-12 CCAA) fall to ninth in the conference standings with three games to play.

While it was close early on, Sonoma State caught fire and wouldn't look back.  There was one tie and three lead changes in the contest, all of which came in the opening four minutes.  When Jason Walter hit a pair of free throws at the 13:56 mark of the first half, it gave the Seawolves a lead they wouldn't relinquish.  In fact, the Walter free shots began a 19-5 run over the next six minutes to take a 14-point lead at 26-12.

The Lumberjacks made a run of their own a couple minutes later as they cut a 14-point deficit down to six points at 31-25 with 4:25 to play in the opening period, but that would be as close as HSU would get the rest of the way.  In fact, the Seawolves took a 39-29 lead into halftime and eventually stretched their lead to as much as 18 with 9:44 left in the game.

While it looked like it was all Sonoma State, Humboldt State managed to trim the SSU lead down to eight points on a three-pointer by Cody Kale with 1:32 remaining in the contest, but the Seawolves scored the game's final seven points to finish the game with a 15-point, 83-68 victory.

Humboldt came into Friday's matchup as one of the best free throw shooting teams in the conference, but only 64 percent of the 44 attempts from the charity stripe fell for the visitors (27-44).  Meanwhile, Sonoma made the most of its opportunities from the line, hitting on 83.0 percent from the same line (26-31).  In all, 75 free throw attempts was the result of 61 combined fouls between the two squads, including three technicals.

As a team, SSU connected on 25 of 51 shots from the hardwood (49.0 percent), holding HSU to just 35.2 percent (19-54).  Olsem went 7 for 12, including 5 for 9 from beyond the arc.  Herold was just 4 for 9 shooting, but made up for it at the charity line, hitting all nine attempts to record 17 points on Friday.  Emmanuel Bradford added 12 points before fouling out late.

For HSU, Rakim Brown led all players with 25 points, including 11 for 15 from the free throw line -- he was just 6 of 17 from the floor.  Kale had 14 points, followed by 11 from Austin Bryan.

Sonoma State will play its final home game of the 2012-13 season on Saturday when it plays host to fourth-ranked Cal Poly Pomona (21-2, 17-2 CCAA), which lost on a three-point buzzer-beater to San Francisco State on Friday night.  Four seniors will be honored in a special pre-game ceremony as part of Senior Night -- Andrew Bolton, Will Olsem, Patrick Scott and Ryan Stanley.
