SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Eric Ash fired a 12-over-par 222 in three rounds to finish in a tie for 21st as the Sonoma State men's golf team finished the Coyote Classic in 10th place out of 15 teams this week at Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino. The Seawolves carded a team score of 904 (+64), 40 strokes back of team champion Cal State Stanislaus (864; +24), which held off runner-up Cal State Monterey Bay (872; +32) by eight shots.
Ash recorded rounds of 73, 71 and 78 to finish as the top SSU golfer in the 54-hole event, three swings ahead of
Blake Basham (76-76-73--225; +15), who finished in a tie for 34th place.
Steven Warne (80-74-74--228; +18) came in at a tie for 43rd,
Matt Medeiros (76-78-78--232; +22) tied for 54th and
Brandon Lee (77-78-78--233; +23) tied for 58th.
Bobby Holden (72-68-68--208; -2) of the Redlands earned medalist honors by four strokes over Kenny You (Dixie State) and Paul Smith (Cal State Stanislaus), who both tied for second place. Smith led the Warriors to the team win, as three of the five Cal State Stanislaus golfers placed in the top 15.
Sonoma State will take part in the Pioneer Shootout next Monday and Tuesday at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo.
