VALLEJO, Calif.
--  The Sonoma State men's golf team turned in a 304, the best team score of the day, to hold their second place position in final round action Tuesday at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Hiddenbrook Golf Club in Vallejo.  Steven Warne carded a third round 77 to move up one spot and finish in a tie for third overall, continuing his strong start to the spring season.

In the end, the Seawolves finished Tuesday's action where they began, in second place in the field of nine.  Their 304, however, allowed them to gain two strokes on first place Grand Canyon, though the Antelopes still bested the rest of the field by nine.  The Seawolves distanced themselves from third place Cal State East Bay, putting 14 more strokes between the teams by the end of the round.

Warne finished with a tournament of 77-73-77--227, 12 strokes behind first place Matt Lee of CSU East Bay, who was competing as an individual.

Showing their depth, the Seawolves were the only team in the field to have all five golfers in the top 22.  Following Warne were Brandon Lee (77-80-75--232) in 10th, Blake Basham (73-84-78--235) in 14th, Matt Medeiros (79-83-74--236) in 16th, and Eric Ash (76-78-87--241) in 22nd.

The Seawolves have finished either first or second in three of their last five tournaments dating back to the SSU Invitational last October.

Sonoma State returns to action next week at the UC San Diego-hosted Southern California Intercollegiate.
