TURLOCK, Calif. -- In their final regular season action, the Sonoma State men's golf team turned in a promising performance, finishing fourth in a field of 16 at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational at Turlock Golf & Country Club. Sophomore
Eric Ash led the way for the Seawolves, finishing in a tie for sixth overall.
The Seawolves shot a team score of 316 on Tuesday to drop one spot in the final round. Cal State Stanislaus (888) got out to a big early lead and held on to edge Cal State Monterey Bay (890) for first place. Western Washington (915) was third with the Seawolves (915) nosing out Chico State (926) for fourth.
After shooting a 73 in round one, Ash shot a 76 in round two and another 76 in round three to finish the tournament at 225. It was the fourth Top-10 performance in ten events this season for the Loomis native.
Steven Warne was the Seawolves' next-best finisher at 73-74-83--230. That score was good enough for 19th place.
Matt Medeiros (74-77-80--231) was 22nd,
Brandon Lee (79-81-77--237) took 40th, and
Blake Basham (83-77-85--245) rounded out the Sonoma five in 60th.
Kyle Listar actually finished in a tie for sixth place with Ash, but he was playing as an individual and did not factor in to the team scoring. Listar's final card showed a 73-74-78--225.
The Seawolves will go for a league title next week at the CCAA Championship in Paso Robles. Sonoma has brought home a banner twice, in 2008 and 2009. They'll enter this year's event on a roll, with Top-4 performances in each of their last three events.
