Seawolves Take Third At CCAA Championship; Warne Honored

FINAL RESULTS (.pdf)

PASO ROBLES, Calif. --  Sonoma State turned in a 285 on Tuesday, the top team score of the day, to finish in third place at the 2013 CCAA Men's Golf Championship at Hunter Ranch Golf Course in Paso Robles.  Three Seawolves finished in the top ten, led by sophomore Kyle Listar, who fired a 72-71-70--213 to earn a fifth place finish.  Following the tournament, it was also announced that Steven Warne has been named to the All-CCAA Team.

Though the Seawolves ended up finishing Tuesday's play where they started, in third place, their performance allowed them to gain four strokes on eventual champion Cal State Monterey Bay.  The Otters (845) took the team title, followed by Cal State Stanislaus (854), Sonoma State (860), and Chico State (864).  UC San Diego (874) finished fifth, with Cal State East Bay (884), Cal State San Bernardino (893), and Cal State Dominguez Hills (966) filling out the final three spots.

Listar's final card of 213 was nine strokes behind the individual medalist, Brandon Hortt of Cal State Monterey Bay (67-64-73--204).  Other Seawolves in the top ten included Matt Medeiros (68-74-72--214) and Eric Ash (73-70-72--215), who finished 7th and 10th, respectively.

Warne, who earned his first all-conference honor for his stellar play over the course of the season, finished 16th at 73-74-71--218.  Brandon Lee was the Seawolves' final finisher at 74-80-75--229.

Ranked sixth in the west region coming into the conference championship, Sonoma State's performance means they will likely compete in the NCAA West/Central Regional at The Home Course in Dupont, Washington, May 6th through 8th.  The Seawolves finished 3rd in a field of 15 at a preview tournament held at The Home Course earlier this month.

Should the Seawolves advance to the NCAA West/Central Regional, it will mark their seventh appearance in the event in the last eight years.  They have finished either first or second in the regional in each of their last four appearances.  Stay tuned to sonomaseawolves.com for more information.
