#6 CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY 10, #5 SONOMA STATE 7
SANTA CLARA – The Sonoma State women's water polo team faced off against the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday afternoon in the fifth-place contest at the WWPA Championship Tournament, but came up short in a 10-7 battle. The Seawolves placed sixth in the WWPA and end the season with a 13-20 overall record, while going 6-7 in the WWPA.
The Otters got on the board with one goal in the first quarter and followed up with three more in the second quarter, blanking the Seawolves to take a convincing 4-0 lead into halftime.
Trailing by four goals entering the second half, Sonoma State got three goals into the cage, however, CSUMB netted three of their own to keep the four goal lead at a score of 7-3. In the fourth,
Adrienne Bisharat fired in a goal, along with
Alexa May,
Jessica Stansfield, and
Laura Kunz, but could not catch the Otters as CSUMB went on to win the game by a score of 10-7.
Bisharat's performance in the WWPA Championship Tournament earned her second team All-Tournament, as she scored six goals in three games over the weekend. Sonoma State got two goals from Kunz and May while Bisharat, Hummel, and Stansfield chipped in with one each in the loss.
Ariel Lockshaw started in the cage for Sonoma State and made four saves with two steals.
