SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team scored four times in the seventh inning to earn a come-from-behind 5-3 win over 23rd-ranked Sonoma State on Friday afternoon in the opener of a four-game series in Seaside.  Despite three hits from Devon Zenn and Scott Harkin, the Seawolves could not avoid falling into a tie with the Otters for third place in the CCAA at 13-8.  Both teams are also now 21-10 overall.

The Seawolves scored the first run of the game in the third inning when Jackson Stogner stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, then came home to score on a sacrifice fly from Scott Harkin

Another run was added an inning later on an RBI single off the bat of Scott Templeton

After four stellar innnings, the Otters finally got to Seawolf starter Taylor Herbert in the fifth, when Ronnie Fhurong drove in a run with a single up the middle.  Herbert settled back in after that, and was pretty much untouched until the seventh inning.

Leading 3-1 following a Devon Zenn RBI single in the top of the seventh, things began to fall apart for the Seawolves.

After back-to-back singles by Tommy George and Jason Merjano with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Herbert was lifted for reliever Austin Wiggins.  A walk would follow to load the bases, before Wiggins gave up a two-run game-tying double to Fhurong.

A wild pitch and a run-producing groundout resulted in two more runs for the Otters as they turned that 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead.

Sonoma made things interesting in the ninth when Jeffrey Boulware was hit by a pitch and Jackson Stogner singled before A.J. Quintero set down the middle of the Seawolves' order to end the game.

Zenn and Harkin each went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Herbert ended his day with six hits and three runs surrendered over 6.1 innings.  Wiggins (2-2) was tagged with the loss after yielding two runs in a third of an inning.

Chris Daniels went 6.2 innings, striking out six for the Otters.  Brett Hammond (1-0) was the winning pitcher.

The Seawolves and Otters will continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 11:00 am.
