DUPONT, Wash.
-- Steven Warne shot a 72 on Tuesday and Eric Ash finished eighth overall as the Sonoma State men's golf team produced an impressive third place finish at the Saint Martin's West Region Preview, held at The Home Course in Dupont, Washington.  The course will play host to the NCAA Division II West/Central Super Regional from May 6th to 8th.  The Seawolves were just eight strokes behind first in a field of 15 made up of top teams from all around the region.

The Seawolves shot a 293 on Tuesday, slipping one spot, from second to third in a very tight field.  Western Washington shot a 284, the best round of the day to surge from third to first.  Grand Canyon finished second.

Ash closed out a very fine tournament with a third round 73.  He finished eighth in the event with a final card of 71-70-73--214.  Warne was just three strokes behind Ash, in 18th at 71-74-72--217.

Behind Ash and Warne, the Seawolves' well-rounded performance was aided by the play of a trio of freshmen.  Blake Basham finished 27th at 73-70-76--219, Matt Medeiros was 38th at 78-70-73--221, and Brandon Lee placed 48th at 73-75-75--223.

The Seawolves hope to make another trip to Dupont, Wash. in a few weeks to play in the NCAA Division II West/Central Super Regional.  Sonoma State won the regional in 2008 and 2010 and was runner-up in 2009 and 2011.

Next up for the Seawolves is the Hanny/Stanislaus Invitational next week in Turlock.
