Sonoma Sweeps 'Jackets For Spike Title; Densberger Named MVP

Sophomore Madelyn Densberger was named the Seawolf Spike MVP after leading the Seawolves to 4-0 this weekend.

Kelsey Hull smashed 13 kills and hit .600 and Madelyn Densberger, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, hit .429 with 11 kills as 24th-ranked Sonoma State completed an undefeated weekend with a three-set sweep over Montana State Billings to wrap up the 2013 Seawolf Spike on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den.  The Seawolves will now enter CCAA play next weekend with a 7-1 record.  The Yellowjackets fell to 2-6 on the year.

Sonoma State cruised two a pair of set wins to open the match with scores of 25-13 and 25-15.  The third set, however, was a different story.  Montana State Billings gave the hosts a run for their money, taking a 21-18 lead late.  But the Seawolves weren't about to extend their weekend as they ended the match on a 7-1 run to clinch the victory with a 25-22 triumph.

Hull, Densberger and Seitz combined for 35 of the team's 47 kills, helping Sonoma to a blazing .340 clip from the floor, a season-high.  Defensively, SSU held MSUB to just .120 from the floor, led by the 14 digs of Nicole Gragnola.

Montana State Billings was led by the 14 kills from Monica Grimsrud; she was the only Yellowjacket with more than six kills.

Sonoma State opens CCAA play on Friday when it hosts Cal State San Bernardino.  Tipoff from The Wolves' Den is set for 7:00 pm.
