ROHNERT PARK, Calif.  --
Apparently Sonoma State senior Kristina Fahey decided to save her best for last.  In the penultimate game of her four-year career, Fahey established a career-high with 22 points in the Seawolves' 48-45 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay at The Wolves' Den.  Fahey led Sonoma on a steady comeback that featured a final possession with a chance to force overtime, only to see the game slip away.

The Seawolves (4-21, 3-18 CCAA) fell behind quickly on Friday, scoring just two points in the first five and a half minutes on their way to an 18-4 deficit midway through the first half.  The Otters' (7-17, 4-17 CCAA) lead grew to as many as 15, at 26-11, before the Seawolves scored the final ten points of the half.  Sonoma held CSUMB without a point for the final 6:16.

Continuing to chip away at the lead as the second half began, the Seawolves got to within a single point at 32-31 with 16:10 left before the Otters surged ahead again.

Like they did at the end of the first half, the Seawolves' defense stepped up big in the game's final moments.  In fact, Cal State Monterey Bay managed just two points in the final 6:39, giving the Seawolves hope.

A three-pointer by Fahey with 4:49 left cut the lead to five and when the Otters missed their next four shots, Fahey was able to get Sonoma within three by draining a pair of free throws with 45 seconds left.

Another CSUMB miss and a subsequent rebound by Sonoma gave the home side a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer.  Unfortunately, a turnover with seven seconds left gave possession to the Otters.  Sonoma State fouled Cal State Monterey Bay on the ensuing possession, but that was just their third foul of the second half, meaning they couldn't put the visitors on the line, effectively ending their comeback hopes.

Fahey's big night came on 8 of 14 shooting from the field.  She hit four three-pointers and grabbed 11 rebounds, a mark that tied her career best.  Tanner Adams was the only other Seawolf in double digits, finishing the night with 11 points.

McKenna Hill and Chezla Self each had 12 points for Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Seawolves will close out the 2013-14 season on Saturday night when they host Cal State East Bay.  Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 and the game will be preceded by a ceremony to honor Sonoma' seniors, Fahey and Natalie Del Carlo.
