Seawolves Outlasted By Pioneers On Friday Afternoon, 10-7

Alexa May had a hat trick for the Seawolves in Friday's loss to the Pioneers.

Cal State East Bay 10, Sonoma State 7

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --
The Sonoma State women's water polo team took to the pool on Friday with thoughts of avenging a close 5-3 loss suffered in March to Cal State East Bay. The Pioneers, however, had other plans, besting the Seawolves 10-7 and completing a three-game season sweep.  The loss drops the Seawolves to 7-19 overall, while Cal State East Bay improves to 13-13.

The first quarter saw most of the momentum residing on Cal State East Bay's half of the pool. Alexa May scored the lone Seawolf goal of the quarter as the Pioneers jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. May scored again in the second quarter, along with Jessica Becker and Noelle Herrera to cut the Pioneer lead to 6-4 at halftime.

With 5:04 left to play in the third quarter, Herrera netted another goal to close the gap to one at 6-5. The Pioneers then went on a 3-0 run to end the quarter, keeping the Seawolves at a distance, 9-5.

Brittny Hummel would get in the scoring column in the fourth quarter, and May put in her third of the game. Those two goals weren't enough to complete the comeback as the Pioneers held on for the win by the score of 10-7.

The Seawolves next play on Senior Day, tomorrow April 12, against Santa Clara at the Dr. G Edward Rudloff Pool on the campus of Sonoma State. First sprint is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
