Justin Shluker, who fired a team-low 70 on Tuesday, the Sonoma State men's golf team captured the team title at its own Sonoma State Invitational hosted this week at Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves (872; +8) held off second-place Dominican (876; +12) by four shots.
Academy of Art's Oskar Frick won medalist honors, blowing away the field with a 10-under-par 206 effort, six strokes better than runner-up Johnnie Greco of William Jessup (212; -4). Dominican's Drew Nelson was the only other golfer finishing under par, scoring a 215 (-1) to place third. Shluker tied with UC San Diego's Jeff Roseth in fourth place while
Kenny Maroney tied for seventh with three other golfers at 218 (+2).
Matthew Sterling (221; +5),
Nicolas Daniels (223; +7) and
Brandon Lee (224; +8) all placed in the Top 26 out of the 69 participants this week to account for the Sonoma State "Blue" team. As for the SSU "White" team, which finished in a tie for third place with William Jessup at 885 (+21),
Chase Dossa led the way with a 219 (+3) after shooting a 76 on Tuesday,
Spencer Clapp followed with a 220 (+4),
Mathew Potter, who also carded a team-best 70 in Tuesday's final round, finished with a 222 (+6),
Ian Hofmann brought in a 227 (+11) and
Taylor Manna shot a 229 (+13).
Sonoma State will wrap up its fall portion of its 2015-16 schedule next week at the CSUMB Otter Invitational at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside.
