Halftime Lead Slips Away In 63-51 Loss To Div. I Pacific

Box Score (.pdf)

STOCKTON, Calif. --
A jump shot by Taylor Acosta with 3:04 remaining in the first half gave the Sonoma State women's basketball team a 12-point lead at 27-15, but the offense fell cold, misfiring on 17 of its next 21 shots to allow the University of the Pacific to rally in the second half and defeat the Seawolves 63-51 on Saturday evening at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton.

It was the final preseason game for Sonoma State as it looks to open the 2015-16 regular season on Friday at 5:30 pm against Holy Names in the CCAA/PacWest Challenge hosted by Chico State.

Acosta's made jumper late in the first half was SSU's 11th made shot in 19 attempts to start the contest (57.9 percent), but for the final 23 minutes, the Seawolves shot just 29.2 percent (7 of 24) from the floor, opening the door for the Tigers to run away with the exhibition victory.  In fact, Pacific outscored Sonoma State 26-12 in the third quarter alone to turn a four-point halftime deficit into a 10-point lead at 49-39 heading into the fourth quarter of play.

Jerrica Crosby led the way with nine points while Acosta came off the bench to chip in with eight.  Sonoma turned the ball over 30 times, 17 by way of a steal by UOP; Pacific gave the ball away 17 times.

The hosts were led by the 15 points from Erin Butler and 13 from Emily Simons.  Pacific connected on 21 of 62 shots (33.9 percent), including 14 of 34 (41.2 percent) in the second half.
