ROHNERT PARK -- After trailing 3-0 for the first 15 minutes of the match, the Sonoma State women's water polo team rallied to score five unanswered goals before holding off WWPA-foe Cal State Monterey Bay late for the thrilling 5-4 victory on Saturday at Rudloff Pool in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves have won five of their last six contests, improving to 7-12 this season.  The Otters sunk to 5-12.

Kaysie Lewis and Noelle Herrera provided most of the offense for SSU, throwing in two goals each, while Brittny Hummel scored the go-ahead goal to put the Seawolves up 4-3 with 2:38 to play in the third period.  Goalie Andrea Mallul made 14 saves in the match.

The Seawolves got off to a slow start, falling behind 3-0 with 2:55 left in the first half.  However, Herrera got SSU on the scoreboard just under two minutes later to put the hosts down by two at halfttime.

In the third period, Herrera, Lewis and Hummel all scored and the defense came up big, allowing Sonoma to take a 4-3 lead into the final eight minutes.  With 3:15 remaining in regulation, Lewis gave the Seawolves a cushion with a goal to put them up 5-3, and it would prove to be crucial as Cal State Monterey Bay scored with six seconds left in the contest.  It was too little, too late, however, and Sonoma State held on for the win.

Lily Carlon recorded two assists in the contest and Nicole Browning had four steals.

Sonoma State returns to the pool on Sunday when it hosts Harvard at 1:00 pm.
