As a team, Sonoma State took third place with a total score of 614 (+35) despite entering Tuesday's final round in first place with a one-shot lead over Dixie State. The host Trailblazers (610; +34) held off Cal State Monterey Bay (611; +35) by one shot to take the team trophy
For Virtusio, it is her first-career tournament win, and her second-career win overall (she finished with the top score in a dual match with Dominican last spring, a career-best 68). Her total of even-par 144 is her best 36-hole score as a Seawolf, but the second-best score in her collegiate career (she carded a two-under 142 in the Dallas Baptist Women's Classic on Oct. 12-13, 2015 as a freshman for Academy of Art).
Also for the Seawolves,
Julia Peters tied for 11th with a 78-77--155 (+11) this week,
Cristina Picariello tied for 15th with a 77-80--157 (+13),
Samantha Oliva tied for 20th with a 78-80--158 (+14) and
Lexi Nielsen tied for 31st with a 83-81--164 (+20). Peters, appearing in her second-career tournament for SSU, carded the most pars of all 56 participants this week, rolling in 27 during the 36-hole event.
Sonoma State will now turn its focus on hosting duties for the annual Sonoma State Fall Invitational set to take place in two weeks (Oct. 16-17) at Oakmont Golf Club in Santa Rosa.
