FINAL RESULTS
SALINAS, Calif. -- Sabrina Virtusio tied two other players for the best second-round score Tuesday, a two-over-par 74 that lifted the Sonoma State women's golf team from fifth place to finish third at this week's California Bays Invitational hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at the Corral de Tierra Country Club in Salinas.
The Seawolves posted a 639 (+63) in the 36-hole event, coming in behind host and team champion Cal State Monterey Bay (611; +35) and runner-up Academy of Art (620; +44). Sonoma also edged Cal State East Bay and Newman by two shots (641; +65).
Virtusio fired an 80 in Monday's opening round before carding her 74 on Tuesday, totaling a 154 (+10) to take fifth place alongside two other competitors in the field of 53.
Samantha Oliva also bested her Monday score by six shots on Tuesday, bringing in a total of 82-76--158 (+14) to place 12th overall.
Cristina Picariello (81-83--164; +20) and
Julia Peters (80-84--164; +20) both tied for 23rd while
Lexi Nielsen (87-83--170; +26) tied for 31st.
As a team, the Seawolves recorded 50 pars to lead Tuesday's final round, tallying the third-most in the tournament with 89.
Sonoma State will travel to Utah next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Dixie State Fall Invitational at Sand Hollow Resort in Hurricane, Utah.
