LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's water polo team suffered two more losses Sunday at the Triton Invitational, falling 6-3 to Santa Clara in the morning session before a 9-6 defeat at the mercy of Iona in the 15th Place Game. The Seawolves (0-4) will return home for their home opener on Saturday, hosting Fresno Pacific at Rudloff Pool at 1:00 pm.

The Seawolves trailed by two goals early before goals by
Lyndsie Williams and
Taylor Brown pulled SSU into a 3-3 tie with the Broncos with 2:32 to go in the first half. However, Santa Clara's Hannah Buck snapped the tie with a goal just over a minute before halftime, then SCU's Annie Eldredge caged another shot with 10 seconds before the intermission to give the Broncos a 5-3 lead going into the half. SCU managed another goal with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter, but that was the extent of the scoring by either team the rest of the way.
Iona 9, Sonoma State 6 -- Box Score
In the 15th Place Game of the Triton Invitational, Sonoma sprinted out to a 4-0 lead just four minutes into the game, but Iona would come storming back to come within just one goal at 6-5 just before halftime. While the Seawolves were held scoreless in the second half for the second straight game, the Gaels scored three goals in the third period and another in the fourth to rally for the 9-6 win.
