ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State Water Polo team fell to WWPA conference rival Cal State East Bay Saturday afternoon in a back and forth battle by a final of 13-9. With the loss Sonoma State falls to 5-15 on the season and 1-3 in WWPA play.
Despite scoring the opening goal, as well as goals in every period, the Seawolves proved unable to catch up with the Pioneers after they took the lead for good with 0:30 to play in the first period.
Taylor Brown put Sonoma State on the board to start the game at the 7:15 mark of the first period and once again gave her team the lead, 2-1 with a goal at 5:17. However a pair of goals over the next 3:49 put East Bay back in the driver's seat, where they'd stay the remainder of the match.
Freshman,
Taylor Brooks added to the scoring in the second period as well as the fourth, pulling the Seawolves to a 4-3 and a 13-8 score in each respective play. Brown, who would go on to lead Sonoma State in scoring on the day with five goals, added two in the final minute and a half of the second period.
Lily Carlon and
Cassidy Mundt also contributed to their team's efforts with a goal each in the game. Goalkeeper,
Lisa Rodarmel matched her East Bay counterpart with six saves in the game but allowed four more goals than Mackenna Nation.
The Seawolves return to action next weekend as they host Cal State Monterey Bay, Sunday at 1:00 pm.
