LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 2019 NFCA Division II All-Region teams. This year's squads are comprised of 209 student-athletes from 118 programs.Â
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2019 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
Jordyn Martinez and Alee Balanon both earned 2019 NFCA Division II All-Region second team honors.
Martinez was the Seawolves top run producer bringing in 44 RBIs throughout her freshman campaign. She led the California Collegiate Athletic Association in home runs (11) and had the fifth highest slugging percentage (.635).Â
Balanon who was also named to the All-CCAA first team leads the Seawolves in batting average (.395) and hits (64). She leads the CCAA in slugging percentage (.728), and triples (6). Balanon is tied with teammate Jordann White.Â
Sonoma State earned themselves an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament after claiming the CCAA tournament outright going 4-0 on the weekend and beating Cal State San Bernardino 7-2 in the championship game.
The Seawolves first game of the regional tournament is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th at 4:30 p.m. against No. 3 Chico State.Â
