THE VAUGHN FAMILY MAKES SONOMA STATE PROUD AGAIN

Toby Vaughn is pictured wearing No. 41 back in his playing days.
Former Sonoma State Baseball stand out Toby Vaughn watched his son's dreams come true Monday night when the Chicago White Sox selected his son Andrew with the 3rd overall pick in the MLB draft.

"The entire Seawolf family wishes Andrew the very best of luck," said a proud Coach Goelz.  "What Andrew and his family have accomplished is absolutely incredible; there is so much that goes into being a success on the field.  The road is long, and there are no short cuts.  It is one step at a time process.  You have to be in shape physically, pay attention to details, surround yourself with the right people, it is about long-term determination, and it is a total family effort," continued Coach Goelz.

Even though Andrew is getting all the attention in 2019, Andrew's dad, Toby played on a couple of very good Sonoma State teams.  Toby was a utility player for the Cossacks in 1987 & 1988.  The team had a 54-39 W-L record over those years.  For his career, Toby hit .289 in 43 games.  110 at-bats, 31 hits, 11 RBI, four doubles, one triple.  He walked 15 times and only struck out eight times. During the summer Toby played for Coach Goelz on the Rohnert Park Green Giants baseball team.  Toby was a member of a championship team that ended the 17-year championship streak of the Humboldt Crabs.  Toby's Green Giant team had a record during his 2 years of 127 wins and 19 losses.

Sonoma State is proud of you too, Toby.  Best wishes to Andrew and soon you will be facing former Sonoma State standout and big leaguer Scott Alexander.  We are all looking forward to that day!
