Stockton, CA - On January 22nd the Seawolves women's water polo team headed into Stockton to face off against another top division I giant in Univerity of Pacific. UOP came into the match with a top 10 ranking and the Seawolves were fresh off of two division I matches the week prior against San Jose State and #2 ranked Stanford.
A high scoring first period brought and back and forth action brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Tigers. They would add to that lead scoring 4 more goals before the half increasing their lead to 9-4. However, Sonoma would score back to back 4 goal periods to get back into the match!
Morgan Jones had 2 of the 4 goals for the Seawolves in the third period and she would finish with 3 goals on the match. Senior
Cassidy Mundt would get in on the action as she scored 3 of the 4 goals in the fourth period helping lead the Seawolves back into the game. Other notable goal scorers included
Jordan Williams who finished the game with 3 goals and a team leading 7 shots.
Sonoma would run out of time and fall by just 1 goal to the highly ranked Tigers of UOP by a score of 13-12. The Seawolves showed great improvements after coming off back to back losses against Stanford and San Jose State the week before. Sonoma showed a strong second half allowing themselves to score goals and get back into the match as they went toe to toe with UOP for the entire game.
Water Polo will return to the pool February 1st in Tempe, Arizona to face off against Arizona State, Princeton University, Azusa Pacific, and Otttawa University.
