WAIMEA, Hawaii – The Sonoma State women's golf team closed out the Dennis Rose Invitational by climbing up 3^rd place in the standings.  Lexi Nielsen led the way with a 3^rd place individual score and Samantha Cabunag also cracked the top-10 in 6^th.    The tournament, played at Hapuna Golf Course in Waimea, Hawaii featured 12 schools from all over the United States.
 
The Seawolves opened the tournament on Monday with a 309 team score and sat in 4^th place after 18 holes.  Cabunag fired an opening round 73 to put her just one shot off the lead while Lexi Nielson (77), Lauren Garcia (78) and Brenna Ozel (78) all broke 80 to round out the team scoring for Sonoma State. 
 
Tuesday's second round saw SSU shoot the second best round of the day, a 297 trailing only Colorado Christian's 292.  The Seawolves closed the gap to just two strokes behind 3^rd with their score.  Nielsen fired a 2-under-par 70 in the second round to shoot up the leaderboard and into 6^th place.  Cabunag followed with a 75 and say just one stroke and place behind Nielsen in 7^th.  Amelia Gladys added a 74 in the second round while Garcia and Ozel both shot 78. 
 
On Wednesday, the Seawolves pushed past Colorado Christian and into 3^rd place with a final round 304.  CCU finished with a 307, giving the Sonoma a one stroke advantage for the tournament.  Nielsen continued her hot play with a final round 72 while Cabunag finished the tournament with a 74.  Garcia and Ozel scored exactly same for the third straight round, each shooting a 79 to round out the scoring. 
 
Grand Valley State won the tournament by five strokes over Biola with a total score of 889.  Brady Turnquist won the individual title for Biola with a 2-under-par 214. 
 
This closed out the Fall schedule for the Seawolves who will return in the spring for the remainder of their 2021-22 season.
