WXC: Freshman Bomarito Leads Seawolves Again in Final Tune-Up Before CCAA Championships

SEATTLE, WASH. - On Saturday, October 22nd, the Sonoma State cross country team headed to the Pacific Northwest where they competed in the Division II Pre Nationals, hosted by GNAC member Seattle Pacific. Off to another impressive start under fourth year head coach David Lawrence Jr., the Seawolves have recorded three top-10 finishes out of their six fall events and have even seen a new program record in the 6k from freshman Gianna Bomarito. The Bomarito show would continue this weekend as she would record another stellar time in the 6k event, just sneaking under the 21-minute mark once again to place 5th out of over 200 runners. Her time of 20:59.80 would go down as second fastest in program history, roughly seven seconds behind her program record of 20:52.9 which she recorded earlier this season at the Paul Short Invite.

The Seawolves would finish 20th as a team in the deep 29 team field. The DII Pre Nationals gave a sneak preview of some of the top teams in the west region, as most of the programs conclude their regular season campaign and gear up for their conference championships.

The next three Seawolf runners all finished inside the top-150, all with times of 24:15 or better. Second year runner Sophie Rodriguez would record a time of 23:50.40, good for SSU's second fastest time of the day. Rodriguez would compete in her third event of the season. Another solid freshman for the Seawolves, Maddie Baytosh, competed in her 4th event of the 2022 season and finished with a time of 24:04.50.

Rounding out the top-150 was second year runner Alex Boyle. Boyle stood as the team's best runner last season and will look to make another push at the CCAA Championships after competing in there second event of the season. Boyle recorded a 6k time of 24:14.70, good for 149th place out of the near 230 person field. After leading the Seawolves as the top finisher at the Bronco Invitational last weekend, sophomore transfer from Saddleback College Olivia Knobbe would record a time of 25:02.40 to conclude the day for Sonoma State.

In the blink of an eye, the fall regular season comes to a close for the Seawolves as they now look to prepare for the CCAA Championships on Saturday, November 5th. The championship event will be hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay and all event information can be found at sonomaseawolves.com.
