DAVIS, CALIF. - On Saturday, March 12th, the Sonoma State track & field team participated in day two of the Aggie Open hosted by UC Davis after the throwers took the field on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves competed in a slurry of events including the 100 meter dash, 400 meters, 800 meters, and 1500 meters.
Freshman
Brittney Glor started the day off with the shot put as she hit a mark of 10.06 meters, good for third in her flight. Out of the 25 participants in the event, Glor finished 16th overall and her mark of just over 33 feet would go down as her new season best, surpassing her previous mark from last week's event at the Kim Duyst Invitational. Glor's season best would also qualify her for the CCAA Championahips in May in the shot put.
Amber Lanza,
Roxanne Foltz, and
Katie Sheldon highlighted the long jump event for the Seawolves. Lanza and Foltz led the way with top-10 finishes in their flight. 15.4 feet for Lanza would go down as the team's best mark on the day. Foltz finished just behind Lanza with a mark of 15.3 feet while freshman jumper
Katie Sheldon rounded out the scoring with a mark just under 13 feet.
Freshman
Mia Oggenfuss would put her imprint on the women's high jump as she finished inside the top-15 out of the event's 20 participants. After failing to record a score during the Kim Duyst Invitational in her season debut last week, Oggenfuss would record her first career mark as a freshman, leaping over the bar at 4 feet 9 inches for the Seawolves.
Freshman
Abby Ribet would be the lone participant for SSU in the 3000 meters. Ribet would finish inside the top-25 in her flight and record a time of 11:23.40. In the 1500 meters, freshman
Alex Boyle would continue their success in the spring season as their time of 4:53.61 would be good for 1st place out of the 8 runners in their flight. Overall, Boyle's time would place them inside the top-15 and give them a new season best, beating their previous mark by over two seconds.
Amber Lanza and
Mia Oggenfuss would also compete in the 100 meter hurdles where the two finished inside the top-25 out of the 30 participants. Lanza bested Oggenfuss with a time of 16.88 seconds while Oggenfuss crossed the line at 17.87 seconds. Oggenfuss would place third overall in her heat as well. Freshman
Makayla Bernadez would make her debut in the women's 400 meters where she recorded the program's best mark this season. Bernadez finished the event under a minute with a time of 59.26 seconds, good for 4th in her section and 4th overall, earning SSU 4 points in the meet. Bernadez would finish as one of just seven runners to record a mark under one minute out of the 23-person field and her time would also qualify her for the CCAA Championships in 400 meters in May.
Freshman
Nia Arceneaux was the lone Seawolf participant in the 100 meters as she finished 2nd in her section with a time of 13.04 seconds. Arceneaux's sub-14 second time would put her inside the top-20 out of the 34 person field. Four freshman runners would highlight the competitive 800 meters as freshman stud
Alex Boyle would compete in her second event of the day and record the low time of the day for SSU with a mark of 2:20.70. Boyle's mark would place her inside the top-10 out of nearly 40 runners and qualify her for the event in the upcoming CCAA Championships. Freshman
Sophie Rodriguez would record a time of 2:33.58 with teammate
Maddy Petersen following with a time of 2:44.49. Zoe-Baker Cohn would continue her freshman campaign as a member of both the cross country and track & field programs as she rounded out the 800 meter event. Cohn would finish with a time of 2:56.16.
Another top-10 finish would come from freshman
Sydney Lopes in the 400 meter hurdles. Lopes recorded a time of 1:10.83 good for 2nd in 2her section and 8th overall. Teammate
Katie Sheldon would compete in her second event of the day in the 400 meter hurdles as she finished inside the top-15 overall with a time of 1:12.59.
Makayla Bernadez,
Sydney Lopes, and
Nia Arceneaux would round out the day with the 200 meter dash as the three all finished inside the top-30. Bernadez and Arceneaux would each finish with times just over 27 seconds, putting the two of them inside the top-15 overall. Lopes would record a time of 28.87 seconds to round out her day in 26th place overall.
The SSU track & field team will compete in a wide range of events again next weekend at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Stanford on Saturday, March 19th.
