Sewolves Put Together Strong Outing at Titan Friday Night Lights

FULLERTON, CALIF.- Sonoma State Track and Field headed down to southern California to compete at the Titan Friday Night Lights meet hosted by Cal State Fullerton. Sonoma had athletes compete in over 13 events with strong performances across both the track and field.

The Seawolves throwers were once again some of the team's top performers. Rebecca Hampton brought home both a second place finish in the javelin throw as well a top 15 spot in the hammer throw. Ariyah Ford also had a strong weekend claiming third in the discus with a 44.7 meter throw as well an eighth place finish in the hammer throw thanks to a 49.25 mark. Tesa Liufau also competed in a pair of events including serving as the only Seawolf to step into the shot put ring where her 11.55 meter mark was good for top 10 finish.

On the track Sophie Rodriguez has continued to put together strong showings in the middle distances. The senior competed in both the 800 meter and 1500 meter races. In the shorter of the two, Rodriguez posted a 2:22.50 final time to break into the top 10. She was even better in the 1500 meter where her 4:47.79 had her take fourth place in a great showing. Alongside Rodriguez, Constance O'Neal and Angeline Gutierrez also were able to claim top 20 finishes giving the Seawolves a solid trio on the track.

In the sprint events Katie Sheldon and Mia Cecilio led the way. Sheldon's 25.91 was good for 13th place in the 200 meters. Sheldon also got into the top 15 of the 100 meter dash as well behind a final time of 12.28. Meanwhile, Cecilio posted a 27.07 mark in the 200 meters but did very well in the 400 meter race. Not only did she secure an 11th place finish but she was close to a sub-60 second performance in the single lap race.

Lastly, in the jumping pits Amber Walker continues to dominate. The freshman's fourth place finish in the long  jump came courtesy of a 5.06 meter jump that highlighted her resilience after her first two attempts were marked as fouls. She continued to perform well with a second place finish in the high jump where she has dominated all year long. She not only took second place but battled a pair of upperclassmen from Utah Tech.
