EUGENE, OREGON- Sonoma State Track and Field headed north to the most famous track and field in the country, Hayward Field. The Seawolves went toe to toe with some elite programs across a variety of events both on the track and out in the field.
Leading off in the 100 meter dash was Katie Sheldon who secured a top 10 finish thanks to a final time of 12.42. Sheldon also posted a strong performance in the 200 meter sprint finishing in 25.91 seconds while defeating athletes from large NCAA Division I programs like Oregon State and Eastern Washington.In the hurdles Sydney Lopes was outstanding claiming fifth place in the 400 meter hurdles while running the race in 1:06.42.Â
In the longer distances, Sophie Rodriguez competed in the 5000 meter and set a personal record to the tune of 17:43.60! Rodriguez, the lone Seawolf battled for 12 laps against athletes from Western Washington, Eastern Washington and more.
As has been the case for much of the season, Sonoma was able to put together great showings in the throwing events. Starting off in the discus throw, Ariyah Ford finished in seventh place with a 39.43 meter throw. She remained in the top 10 for the shot put as well taking eighth place with a final mark of 12.42 meters.
Rounding out the Seawolves performance on the day was the high jumping duo of Amber Walker and Jazmine Severo. Both athletes have been performing at a high level and have constantly pushed one another to strong outings. This was highlighted by both finishing in the top 10 thanks to each jumper posting a final mark of 1.55 meters. Walke also competed in the long jump where she took 13th place with a 4.90 meter jump.
