PEBBLE BEACH, CALIF. - On Tuesday, March 22 the Sonoma State women's golf team concluded their three round affair at the Patriot Invitational hosted by Dallas Baptist University. With the women normally competing in two round tournaments, the Seawolves clawed their way to an 8th place finish in their three rounds of competition. SSU finished third out of the five competing CCAA teams which included Monterey Bay San Marcos Cal State LA and Chico State. 

The second round on the first day of the tournament proved to be detrimental for the Seawolves as they shot a combined 17 strokes higher compared to their 302 first round score. Samantha Cabunag and Courtney Cervellin were the two low scores in round one as they both combined for a 5-over day with 6 birdies. 

After shooting six over par or worse in her opening two rounds senior captain Lexi Nielsen got back to her normal form and finished off the tournament with a solid 73 (+2). Her 2-over performance was the team's second lowest score of the week and her eagle on the par 5 9th would highlight the round as the team's lone eagle of the tournament. Nielsen's solid final round would allow her to jump 12 spots and finish 22nd individually in the tournament. Cabunag would grab a couple birdies in her final round to post a 74 (+3), allowing her to finish t-17th as the lone top-20 finisher for SSU. 

Head coach Val Verhunce and his squad will take a week off to regroup before concluding their spring season at SSU's very own Spring Invitational on April 4th and 5th. This will act as the team's final tune up before the CCAA Championships begin on April 10th.
