WGOLF: Seawolves Place 13th at Fujikura Invite

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's golf team competed in the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational this week, placing 13th in a field of 19 teams.  The Seawolves, coming off a win in the Cal State East Bay Tournament last week shot back-to-back 318 in each round.

SSU opened the tournament at Shadowridge Country Club on Monday with Samantha Cabunag leading the way with a 75.  Cabunag fired four birdies on the front nine to shoot even par before three bogies on the back brought her final score to three-over-par. Lexi Nielsen finished one stroke behind Cabunag with a 76, including a one-under-par 35 on the front nine.  Brenna Ozel (82) and Natalie Brugler (85) rounded out the Seawolves scoring in the opening round.

Ozel rebounded on the second day to lead the team with a 76, including twelve pars and a birdie.  Cabunag followed up her 75 with a 79 in the second round to finish a team best 24th in the tournament.  Cabunag once again had a strong front nine, finishing one-over-par.  Nielsen shot an 81 in the second round and finished in a tie for 41st with Ozel.

The Seawolves are off next week before returning to action on March 21 for a tournament at Poppy Hills hosted by Dallas Baptist.
