FRESNO, CALIF. – On Saturday, April 30th, the Sonoma State track & field team headed down to Fresno to compete in the Fresno State Invitational, their final regular season event of 2022. The Seawolves would take a small group down to Fresno and would see the day's highlight come in the 4x100 meter relay.
Freshmen
Nia Arceneaux,
Makayla Bernadez,
Katie Sheldon, and sophomore
Roxanne Foltz would record their season best in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 49.45 seconds. The group would finish 10th overall and represented 1 of just 2 division II teams in the competitive and deep field.
Makayla Bernadez would also compete in the 200 and 400 meters later in the day. The freshman from Canoga Park would record a time of 25.60 seconds, good for 28th place in the near 40-person field.
Nia Arceneaux would also compete in the 200 meters and finish with a time of 26.12 seconds, good for 34th place overall. Bernadez would also record a time of 58.42 seconds in the 400 meters.
Freshmen
Sydney Lopes and
Katie Sheldon would round out the day with the 400 meter hurdles. Lopes would come in as the low finisher in the event with a time of 1:09.76. Sheldon would follow with a time of 1:11.35.
The Seawolves will now rest up and prepare for the 2022 CCAA Track & Field Championships held at Cox Stadium in San Francisco. Head coach
David Lawrence Jr. will look to continue his stellar coaching season with both programs and build off of the team's 13th place finish in the 2019 CCAA Championships. The program's best finish dates back to the 2007 season where they finished alone in 9th place. The championships will start on Thursday, May 5th and run through Saturday, May 7th.
