SB: Five Seawolves Named All-CCAA, Romano and Zoia-Buescher Highlight First Team

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - The CCAA individual award winners and All-CCAA squads have been announced as the 2022 CCAA Softball Tournament is slated to get underway on Thursday, May 5th from Otter Sports Complex on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Sonoma State softball team led by head coach Jennifer Bridges produced five All-CCAA selections tied for the most player selections out of all the CCAA schools. Cal State San Marcos took home the regular season title and also saw five players named to the all-conference teams.

The Seawolves finished the regular season in third place after going on an absolute tear, winning 21 of their final 24 CCAA contests and going on a 16-game conference win streak, securing four series sweeps. A 24-12 conference record produced five All-CCAA selections with infielder Cassidy Romano and junior transfer Anna Zoia-Buescher leading the way as first team selections. Romano has been a constant leader for the Seawolves at the short stop position as she owns a .914 fielding percentage with 78 putouts. Zoia-Buescher has made a direct impact as a local transfer from Santa Rosa JC. She leads the team with a .408 BA, 62 hits, and second on the team with a 1.011 OPS.

Rounding out the All-CCAA Second Team is catcher Jordyn Martinez, infielder Giana Hays, and senior pitcher Camille Rodriguez. Giana Hays earned her second All-Star/All-CCAA selection for Sonoma State dating back to the shortened 2020 season. She currently sits second on the team with a .356 BA. Senior pitcher Camille Rodriguez also earned second team honors for SSU for her first all-conference selection of her career. Rodriguez represents the Seawolves ace with a team high 14 wins and a 1.85 ERA, good for second lowest on the team. Junior Jordyn Martinez continues to put herself at an elite level at the catcher position in the CCAA. She earns her third all-conference/All-Star selection of her SSU career while sitting third on the team with a .336 BA and tied for second on the team with 5 homers.

The Seawolves will make their 11th CCAA Tournament appearance since the 2009 season as they look to secure another tournament title after being crowned CCAA Tournament Champions in 2019.

The six-team 2022 CCAA Softball Tournament will begin Thursday, May 5, in Seaside, Calif. The first game will be the No. 3 seed Sonoma State facing the No. 6 seed, Cal State East Bay. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tickets are still available at GoCCAA.org/Tickets. For fans that are unable to attend, all games will be streamed live on the CCAA Network at CCAAnetwork.com.
