ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Tuesday, August 2nd, the 2021-22 CCAA Annual All-Academic team was released, recognizing qualified student-athletes for their athletic and academic success over the course of the entire 2021-22 academic year. The academic team caps off an exciting return to college athletics during the 2021-22 athletic year as we approach the start of the fall 2022 season.
A total of 935 student-athletes from across the 12 CCAA institutions collected CCAA All-Academic honors in 2021-22 for posting a 3.40 grade-point average or higher and earning a varsity letter in a conference-sponsored sport during the designated academic year. The CCAA began handing out All-Academic honors in 2005-06, and the 935 selections are the most for any season, not including the COVID years. It eclipsed the 900 student-athletes to earn the honor in 2018-19.
"The student-athletes in the CCAA continue to impress us with their outstanding dedication to their personal, educational goals, all while being committed to their teams, their schools and their community," remarked CCAA Commissioner Mitch Cox. "To earn this honor requires great time-management skills, a focus on the future, and a strong work ethic. Congratulations to all of the 2021-22 CCAA All-Academic team members!"
Out of the 12 CCAA institutions, Sonoma State finished with the 4th highest student-athlete total on the annual all-academic list. Their 92 selections went down as the department's highest total since the 2019-20 academic year where 96 SSU student-athletes were named to the academic team.
All 11 Sonoma State athletic programs were featured on the academic team with the Seawolves women's soccer program leading the way with a department high 19 student-athletes selected. SSU's baseball and softball programs followed closely behind with 12 selections apiece. The criteria for the 2021-22 CCAA Annual All-Academic Team can be found below:
