ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - The Sonoma State cross country team is preparing to head north for the second time this season and compete in the 2023 NCAA West Regional hosted by Western Oregon. The Seawolves are coming off of a historic performance at the conference championships highlighted by sophomore
Gianna Bomarito who won the women's 6k and was named the CCAA Runner of the Year. Bomarito shattered the program and conference championship record with a time of 20:28.3. First year runner
Liliana Salado was the team's next best finisher with a time of 23:03.5, good for a personal best. Veterans
Sophie Rodriguez and
Abby Ribet both recorded times under 24 minutes to also finish with season bests and help Sonoma State to their best team finish at the conference championships since 2004.
Gianna Bomarito will look to continue to add to her historic resume here at Sonoma State and become the first runner to qualify for the National Championship since 2001. Per the NCAA participant manual, the top three teams from each region will advance to the National Championships including ten at-large selections. For the individuals, the top two runners who are not part of a qualifying team will automatically advance and then all other individuals within the top five not belonging to a qualifying team will also earn a spot in the National Championships. The NCAA committee will also select eight at-large individuals, bringing the minimu total of qualifying individuals to 24.
