STOCKTON, CALIF. - The Sonoma State women's golf team traveled to the Reserve at Spanos Park for the Bay Area Invitational On Monday and Tuesday, February 20th and 21st, for their first spring event. The team traveled with
Talia Gutman,
Courtney Cervellin,
Mia Golovich,
Brenna Ozel,
Isley Grguric, and
Aly Hutchinson as an individual.
The girls arrived in Stockton ready to play with a fresh lineup. "The conditions were fairly decent," Golovich said and the course was one that challenges all aspects of your game. Playing as a par 72 with a length of 6052 yards, the field was up for a test.
Golovich got off to a great start recording three pars, followed up with a birdie. Her round included another birdie on the par five 16th and she finished at seven-over-par for the day. Gutman, who has yet to have worse than a top-20 finish, also had two birdies but finished at eight-over-par. Cervellin was the best counting score as she shot a six-over 78 to place tied for 17th, despite jumping all the way inside the top-10 midway through the second round. Individual
Aly Hutchinson was the lowest on the team and finished with a result of tied for ninth in the tournament shooting five over. Her round included three birdies and a staggering 10 one-putts.
The second round brought both excitement and trouble. With a wind advisory in place, the girls battled through winds that sustained 18mph with even stronger gusts. Although they were climbing the leaderboard, the round was eventually canceled due to the weather and would go down as a one round tournament. The Seawolves finished 6th out of 9 teams with a total of 31 over-par. They will gear up for their second tournament in back-to-back weeks as they head south to compete in the Pioneer Shootout, hosted by Cal State East Bay, on February 27th.
