ALAMEDA, CALIF. - On Tuesday, February 28th, the Sonoma State women's golf team continued their 2023 spring season in the annual Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, hosted by Cal State East Bay. After several rain delays with storms hitting the majority of the state over the last two weeks, teams would wrap up the first round of action late into Monday evening.
With additional rain Tuesday morning, East Bay would eventually be forced to cancel the next two rounds of the event, finalizing the tournament after just one round of action. The Seawolves would finish in a tie for 4th place in a deep 17-team field with numerous high level west region teams.
Sonoma State would finish the first round at 317 (+29), putting them in a tie with George Fox. Returner
Aly Hutchinson and freshman
Mia Golovich led the way for the Seawolves, combining for 5 birdies in the round. Hutchinson played some of the most consistent golf of the tournament for SSU and despite a tough 8th hole on the par 4, she would recover to record a birdie on the 12th and finish the back nine just two-over. She would finish t-19th individually.
Southern California native
Mia Golovich competed in just her third tournament of her SSU career and got her second straight start at the Pioneer Shootout this week. Golovich recorded a team high 3 birdies in her 18 holes of action including back-to-back birdies on the first two holes. Golovich represented the team's top finisher in the event as she finished with a 78 (+6), good for t-13th individually.
Joining Golovich in a tie for 13th individually in the tournament was individual
Courtney Cervellin. The four year veteran snagged a birdie on the back nine to shoot just two-over and finish with a 78 (+6), matching teammate Golovich. Full Pioneer Shootout results and finishes for Sonoma State can be found below.
