RIVERSIDE, CALIF. - On Wednesday, April 19th, the CCAA Women's Golf Championships came to a close with Sonoma State finishing in a tie for fourth place with Cal State LA out of the six competing teams. The Seawolves got off to a great start on day one of the three round event at the Victoria Club, recording a 307 team score to sit alone in second place. The course would prove to only get tougher as the tournament went on as they put up a 314 and 317 in their final two rounds of play, dropping into a tie for fourth place.
The storyline for SSU belonged to freshman
Talia Gutman who returned to the clubhouse on Monday as the round one individual leader posting a 71 (-1), the only round under par the entire day. Gutman would slide into second place on Tuesday, carding a score of 4-over-par, and then finished today with a solid 73 (+1), holding her position in second place. Gutman led the field in par 4 scoring and finished tied for first with 10 birdies in her three rounds of action.
Adding to her impressive postseason performance, Gutman recorded the best individual finish at a conference championship in program history, standing as the only top-2 finisher for SSU in the three editions of the CCAA Championships. Former Seawolf
Samantha Cabunag finished tied for third in last year's conference championships.
Sophomore
Lauren Garcia would record her best round of the tournament on Monday, finishing 4-over-par. Garcia would place tied for 13th individually as the team's next best finisher and finish inside the top-10 in total pars for the tournament with 34.
Courtney Cervellin,
Aly Hutchinson, and
Mia Golovich rounded out the top-30 with Golovich competing in her first conference championship of her SSU career.
