BSB: Wright and Fonoti Cap Off Season with All-CCAA Honors for SSU

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Tuesday, May 9th, the 2023 All-CCAA teams were announced with Sonoma State's Christopher Wright and Tanner Fonoti earning second team honors. After winning 7 of their final 8 games, the Seawolves started to fire on all cylinders and were considered one of the best pitching teams in the conference, allowing an average of just 1.4 runs per game.

All-CCAA Second Team: #22 Tanner Fonoti | Jr. | RHP | Fairfield, Calif.

A big part of that run involved junior right hander Tanner Fonoti who made six starts in the final month and a half of the season, recording four wins and five complete games to lead all CCAA pitchers. Fonoti broke out for a career season and would lead the team with six wins and lower his ERA to 2.43, good for second lowest in the entire conference.

Fonoti got off to a slow start this season, not recording an outing of five innings or more for the first two months of the season. However, he would take advantage of a massive matchup with the 5th ranked team in the country, Cal State San Bernardino, on April 1st and throw a dominant 7-inning complete game to give SSU the 5-2 victory. From there, Fonoti would go on to throw four more 7-inning complete games and go 3-1 during that stretch. He would also be named the CCAA Pitcher of the Week for his two hit shutout against Cal State LA, earning the honor for the first time in his career.

Fonoti concludes his junior campaign with a 6-3 overall record, a 2.43 ERA, five complete games, three shutouts, 55 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts.

All-CCAA Second Team: #25 Christopher Wright | Jr. | 1B | Monterey, Calif.

Junior first baseman Christopher Wright would also put together a career season, recording career highs in games played, batting average, hits, home runs and RBI's as he was one of the team's most consistent players. Wright's tremendous work ethic allowed him to jump his batting average by over 40 points as the 6-foot-3 lefty showcased his ability to hit to all fields and with power as he belted a team high six home runs.

Wright concluded the season with a hit in 7 of the team's final 8 games, recording 10 RBI's and a home run during that stretch as the Seawolves went 7-1 and recorded a season high four game win streak. Wright also recorded a season high three hits earlier this year in a 7-5 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills helping SSU to a 3-1 series victory. This stands as his first all-conference selection of his Seawolf career.

Wright concludes his junior campaign with a .277 average, .793 OPS, 43 hits, 9 doubles, 6 homers and 31 RBI's in his 44 games played.
