RENO, NEVADA.- The winter seasons are upon us and that means that Seawolf Track & Field has officially begun its indoor season. The team headed to Reno, Nevada to participate in the Nevada Silver State Inv & Multis.
In the 3000 meter race, cross country standout Constance O'Neal put together a great performance finishing in 10:21.19 to secure a second place finish. After a dominant debut season in cross country, O'Neal has picked up right where she left off on the track.Â
In the high jump, Amber Walker went toe to toe with a handful of jumpers from various NCAA Division I programs and more than held her own. Walker secured a fourth place finish with a jump of 1.70 meters beating out athletes from UC Davis, University of Nevada, Oregon State and Boise State to name a few. Walker also competed in the long jump where she jumped 5.10 meters.
Halle McDaniels put together a great showing in the throws for the Seawolves. McDaniels claimed top 10 finishes in both the shot put and weight throw. In the weight throw she threw a solid 12.67 meters beating out athletes from UC Davis and Oregon State to claim a top 10 finish. In the shot put she narrowly beat out teammate Ariyah Ford with a throw of 12.67 as well. Ford would claim 10th place to give Sonoma two top 10 finishers in the shot put.
In the 600 meter race Jada Turner secured a 6th place finish and narrowly missed a spot in the top five as she was just .3 seconds behind the 5th place finisher. Still, she had a strong debut with a time of 1:37.49 and more than held her own in a field that exclusively featured athletes from NCAA Division I programs.Â
It was a strong debut for Sonoma State who had multiple athletes kickstart the track season with good performances against solid competition. The team will be back in action once the calendar flips to 2025.
