ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State's ten-game winning streak was snapped on Friday night by No. 21 Cal Poly Pomona at Darlene May Gymnasium. The Broncos won in four sets, 25-16, 13-25, 25-16, 25-23, to improve to 8-4, 5-2 CCAA. The Seawolves fall to 14-2, 6-1 CCAA.
The teams split the first two sets with each squad taking a rather easy victory. In set three, the Broncos pulled away for a 25-16 win to put the match victory within reach. The Seawolves led 23-22 in the fourth, but a kill by the Broncos and an attack error by SSU quickly handed the lead back to Pomona. CPP's Elizabeth Diaz then ended the set and the match with a kill, one of her game-high 16.
Ali Walker paced the Seawolves with nine kills.
Kristy Sather and
Marianne Fox each had eight and
Lindsay Brown supplied 28 assists.
Anne-Marie Hofmans (12) and Vanessa Williams (10) joined Diaz in double figures in kills.
The Seawolves will try to earn a weekend split tomorrow when they head to Cal State San Bernardino. It won't be easy, though, as the Coyotes are ranked No. 2 in the nation.
