SAN BERNARDINO, Calif- The third time was the charm for Chico State as the Wildcats ended the best season in Sonoma State history on Friday with a 3-0 sweep of the Seawolves at the NCAA West Regional in San Bernardino. The Seawolves, who swept the Wildcats in the regular season, see their season end at 23-7. Chico (21-10) advances to Cal State San Bernardino in the second round.
The Wildcats won the match by scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-22.
Chico came out strong, steamrolling to a 25-16 win in the opener by hitting .333 as a team. Sets two and three would be much closer as the Seawolves battled, only to come up just short. In fact, the Seawolves out hit the Wildcats in the final two sets.
Sonoma also edged the Wildcats in blocks, 10-4, but they were unable to keep up with several outstanding performances, including Gillian Heydorff (16 kills), Makenzie Snyder (14 kills), and Erica Brick (43 assists).
The Seawolves got a team-high ten kills from
Kristy Sather.
Lindsay Brown had 43 assists and
Taylor Krenwinkel was tops in the match with 24 digs.
