Seawolves Sweep Argonauts in Spike Opener

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Sonoma State volleyball team opened up their 2008 season with a convincing sweep of Notre Dame de Namur on Friday afternoon at the Seawolf Spike Volleyball Tournament in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves go to 1-0 on the season.

It was the debut of the 25-point set in the collegiate game and the Seawolves were able to reach the milestone quickly, dispatching the Argonauts in just over an hour.  SSU won by scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-15. 

Briana Hammonds and Marianne Fox each had seven kills to pace the Seawolves' attack.  Lindsay Brown had 29 assists and freshman libero Taylor Krenwinkel was tops with 15 digs.  The Seawolves out hit the Argos .196 to .108 for the game and were able to take advantage of ten NDNU service errors.

Christin Villamayor and Caitlin Torres shared game-high honors with six kills each for the Argos.

Sonoma State will continue tournament play tonight at 7:00 pm when they host Montana State-Billings.
