Volleyball Defeats No. 25 Chico State In Five

Rikki Buckshnis had 14 kills and seven blocks on Saturday night
CHICO, Calif-  The Sonoma State volleyball team made a statement on Saturday night with a 3-2 win on the road against No. 25 Chico State.  It was the fourth straight win for the Seawolves, who improve to 8-1, 2-0 CCAA.  The Wildcats fall to 8-4, 1-1 CCAA.

The Seawolves are off to their best start since 2001, when they also started 8-1.  They are also enjoying their first 2-0 start to the conference schedule since 2002.

The Wildcats took set one 25-23 before the Seawolves bounced back for a 25-22 victory in set two.  Chico went up again with a 27-25 set three victory.  Needing just one set to close out the victory, the Wildcats led 18-17 late in the fourth before the Seawolves finished on an 8-4 kick to take the set (25-22).

With momentum on their side, the Seawolves pulled away in the fifth set.  They were aided by seven Wildcat hitting errors on their way to a 15-7 win.

The Seawolves hit .211 for the contest, compared to just .158 for the Wildcats.  Kristy Sather continued her impressive play with 17 kills.  Rikki Buckshnis also excelled on both sides of the net, finishing with 14 kills and seven blocks.  Lindsay Brown had a season-high 42 assists and Taylor Krenwinkel led SSU with 28 digs.

Crystal Trifeletti led four Chico players in double digits with 15 kills.

The Seawolves look to extend their winning streak to five in a row on Tuesday when they head to Belmont to take on Notre Dame de Namur.
