Volleyball Sweeps Academy of Art, 3-0

ROHNERT PARK, Calif - The Sonoma State women's volleyball team made quick work of the Academy of Art on Wednesday night at Seawolf Gym, sweeping the Urban Knights, 3-0. The Seawolves improve their record to 12-1 on the year, and have now won eight straight matches. The loss drops the Urban Knights to 10-4.

This is the best start for Sonoma State under the helm of head coach Bear Grassl and in school history.

The Seawolves took match one fairly easily by a score of 25-13. The second set was the closest of the night, with Sonoma State edging Academy of Art 25-22. Sonoma State sealed the deal, with a 25-15 victory in set three.

No Seawolf registered double-digit kills in the match for only the third time this season. Kristy Sather and Marianne Fox each posted nine kills, and Ali Walker chipped in eight kills. All three notched solid attack percentages of above .300, as the Seawolves hit .210 for the match.

Defensively, Sonoma State stymied the Academy of Art attack, turning in eight blocks on the night. Lindsay Brown and Sarah Illingworth tallied five and four blocks respectively, as the Seawolves held the Urban Knights to a woeful .067 attack clip.

Leading the way for the Urban Knights was Kauwila Lavea, who had nine kills and hit .240.

Sonoma State looks to extend their streak to nine on Friday night, as they take on San Francisco State. First serve at Seawolf Gym is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
