TURLOCK, Calif- Sonoma State got out to a 37-7 lead in the first fifteen minutes and didn't let up on their way to their biggest win in nearly a decade, 98-57 over Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night in Turlock. The victory lifts the Seawolves' record to 6-6, 2-3 CCAA. The Warriors fall to 4-6, 0-5 CCAA.
The 41-point margin is the largest margin of victory for Sonoma State since a 104-42 win over Pacific Union on December 30, 1999.
The Seawolves held the Warriors scoreless for nearly six minutes to open the game on their way to an 18-2 start. The lead would continue to grow, reaching 37-7 with 4:48 to play in the first half before the half ended with Sonoma State up 46-14.
The second half would be much more competitive than the first as Sonoma outscored Stanislaus 52-43. The Seawolves used one of their best defensive showings of the year to spark the blowout win, forcing 33 turnovers and allowing the Warriors just five field goals in the first half (5-for-25).
Senior
Keith Garner tied his career-high with 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field. Freshman
Casey McRoberts was also bordering on perfection from the floor, connecting on 7-of-8 on his way to a career-high 19. He was 5-of-5 from three-point territory.
Steven Pratt posted 11 points and a team-high six rebounds and
Gerred Link passed his way to seven assists.
Sonoma State shot 56% in each half as they carried over their strong shooting from last Saturday's San Francisco State game. The Seawolves hit on over 70% of their shots in the second half that night.
Casey Cutts and Benny Koochoie each had 11 points in defeat for the Warriors.
Next up for the Seawolves is a Saturday night meeting with Chico State.
