STOCKTON, Calif- The Sonoma State water polo team used a strong second half to propel themselves to victory Tuesday afternoon at the Chris Kjeldsend Pool against Pacific, outlasting the Tigers 8-7. The Seawolves win their second consecutive match, and now stand 11-15 overall. Pacific falls to 9-23 overall.
The Tigers had control of the game in the first half, outscoring Sonoma State 5-3 in the first two periods. Allison Kosich had two goals each in the first half, and Dara Tawarahara, Bridget Geck, and Katherine Biehle all chipped in with a goal of their own.
The Seawolves would clamp down on defense however in the second half, allowing only two goals in the final two periods.
Laurel Stricklin also caught fire, scoring three of her five goals in the remaining quarters, including two in the third quarter.
Sonoma outscored the Tigers in the second half 5-2, to edge out Pacific for their 11th victory on the year.
Emily Pearce and
Courtney Rider each netted a goal in the second half, and
Lysa Lombard had a game-high eight saves.
Sonoma will close out the regular season in Southern California next weekend with matches against UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, and Cal State San Bernardino.
