Taylor Krenwinkel had 30-plus digs for a second straight night, but 23rd-ranked Cal State East Bay had a huge night at the net, rejecting 16 attacks while hitting at a game-high .229 clip en route to a comeback 3-2 victory over the Seawolves on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den.
Sonoma State falls to 10-7 overall and 7-6 in CCAA play while Cal State East Bay improves to 14-4 and 9-4 in the conference.
It was a back and forth match for most of the night, as the Seawolves staved off set point, down 24-23, but scored three straight points to take the first set 26-24. The Pioneers bounced back in the second frame to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-20 win.
The Seawolves fought through a match-high five lead changes in the third set and took a 15-14 lead half way through the frame. They then went on to score seven straight points and cruised to the 2-1 match lead with the 25-21 victory. However, Cal State East Bay came right back as they did all night and led start to finish in the fourth, easily taking the set 25-19.
Heading to the deciding fifth set for the second straight night, the Seawolves again fell flat, allowing the Pioneers to take a 10-4 lead. CSUEB eventually took the fifth set and the match victory by a 15-11 score.
Sather had 18 kills to lead the Seawolves and Peterson added 16,
Lindsay Lytle passed out a match-high 31 assists while Krenwinkel led all defenders with 30 digs.
Sonoma State will return to action on Friday when it hosts Chico State at 7 p.m. at The Wolves. Den.
