SAN BERNARDINO, Calif-
Keala Peterson led all hitters with 16 kills, but No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino led from start to finish, sweeping to a three-set victory (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) over Sonoma State on Friday night at Coussoulis Arena. The Seawolves, who fell to fifth in this week's NCAA Division II West Region poll, drop to 12-8 overall and 9-7 in conference play. The Coyotes won their 40th consecutive home match while improving to 20-2 (16-1 CCAA).
The Seawolves had their most proficient offensive attack in the opening set, although the Coyotes held SSU to just .152 (nine kills, four errors in 33 attacks). Cal State San Bernardino cruised the rest of the way, stopping the Sonoma State offense to just a .132 hitting percentage in the match.
Peterson's 16 kills was a match-high, but the Coyotes' Jane Chefeh and Nicole Moore had 10 kills apiece, leading CSUSB to a .299 clip. The nationally-ranked Coyotes also aced seven serves.
Lindsay Lytle led a big defensive night at the net, as SSU rejected 11 total attacks, six more than Cal State San Bernardino, who leads the conference in that category. Lytle had five blocks, one of which was solo, and
Devynne Johnson had four blocks, also one of which was solo.
Taylor Krenwinkel matched CSUSB's Kelcie Tolan with 14 digs.
Sonoma State will take on Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday in a special 1 p.m. start from Kellogg Gym in Pomona.
