BOX SCORE: Sonoma State 3, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0
CARSON, Calif- Sonoma State made quick work of Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday afternoon, sweeping the Toros in three to take their fourth straight victory and their seventh in their last eight matches.
Ally Sather paced the Seawolves with 13 kills as they improve to 10-4, 7-3 CCAA. The Toros drop to 1-14, 1-9 CCAA.
Though it would be a three-set sweep for the Seawolves, the Toros were able to keep the scores close, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-21.
The closest set of the day would be the second. The teams traded points for much of the frame and other than an early 4-1 lead by Sonoma, the score stayed at one or two in either direction until the near the end. Leading 20-19, the Seawolves finally got some breathing room when Lyndsay Lytle and
Kendahl Batiste combined for three straight kills, making it 23-19. Sonoma would hold on for the 25-23 victory.
Set three was not without some drama as well as four straight Toro points late turned a 20-17 deficit into a 21-20 lead. The Seawolves again righted the ship though, with the attacking of Sather and serving of
Keala Peterson capturing the final four points.
Sather hit .379 on the day with her 13 kills and just two errors in 29 attempts. Peterson added nine kills and Lytle posted seven. Setting duties were shared between Lytle (19 assists) and
Hayley Ross (18), both doing a nice job setting up an offense that hit .313 in the match. Lytle also led the team with ten digs, rounding out a very solid all-around performance.
Elaine Hicks accounted for just about all of the Toro offense, finishing with 18 kills and a .308 hitting percentage.
The Seawolves will head to Los Angeles tomorrow to take on the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles. First serve is set for 1:00 pm.
