LOS ANGELES- Despite 30 kills from Ally Sather and Keala Peterson with another ten by Devynne Johnson, Sonoma State was held from converting on set point in two of the four sets, allowing Cal State L.A. to claw back and defeat the Seawolves, 3-1 (22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 24-26) on Saturday afternoon at the Eagles Nest in the Billie Jean King Sports Complex. SSU falls to 7-4 in conference play and the Golden Eagles improve to 9-6, 6-5 CCAA.

The match was played extremely close for the entire hour and 48 minutes, amassing 39 tie scores and 11 lead changes. The first set saw ten ties, including a 19-19 deadlock. However, Cal State L.A. pulled away and took the first set 25-22.

The second set was one of the most intense of the match, as the team's found themselves tied 15 different times with five different lead changes. Neither team led by more than one point until the Golden Eagles took a 11-9 lead. Sonoma State scored two straight points and again, no team lead by more than one point until the Seawolves grabbed a 17-15 lead. CSULA tied it right back up, but then SSU scored six straight points to lead 23-17. The Seawolves would eventually force set point at 24-19, but the Golden Eagles recorded seven straight points to grab a 2-0 match lead.

Sonoma State would enjoy a third set victory, 25-18, after leading for much of the frame. The fourth set, however, resembled the first and second sets, as both teams tied ten times and changed leads twice. The Seawolves earned another set point by taking a 24-22 lead, but three kills and an attack error enabled the Golden Eagles to take the 26-24 win and the 3-1 match victory.

Sather had 16 kills as Peterson added 14 with a .375 hitting percentage. The stats were extremely close in every category as Cal State L.A. held an advantage in kills, assists and digs and Sonoma State led in hitting percentage and blocks. Each team recorded six service aces.

Four Golden Eagles had double-digit kills, led by the 16 of Zuzana Cizova.

Sonoma State, who has lost only twice in their last nine matches, will return home on Friday to host UC San Diego, kicking off the second half of the conference season. First serve between the Seawolves and Tritons is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Wolves' Den.
